Universities experience a higher rate of successful spin-outs when researchers partners with experienced entrepreneurs from without.

Usually, collaboration between startups and corporate companies are mutually beneficial. In Denmark, however, corporate companies tend to squash the entrepreneurial spirit early on in the partnership, says Leo Innovation Lab’s Kristian Hart.

The impossibility of patenting software and high tech is a misconception. However, more and more discover the merits of a patent and its ability to attract investors.

”Without tech we will never reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals, but today the tech industry isn’t sustainability-driven,” says Professor Michael Zwicky Hauschild from DTU. UNDP is a partner at the High Tech Summit to help highlighting the need for sustainable tech.

Corporate companies tend to focus on innovation within their already established business areas whereas startups freely explore new territories by help of brand new and cutting edge technology. There is room for both in DTU’s incubator and co-working space Skylab, fuelling creativity and strengthening the ecosystem.

Both companies and research institutions strive to be at the forefront of AI, and Denmark and Europe have the opportunity to secure themselves a favorable position in the field. However, it requires more experts and funding.
